The Silicon in November 2020

The price of silicon metal kept rising in November. The silicon metal has been rising continuously since the middle and late July. It is because of  a large reduction of the production in Sichuan and Yunnan. In November, the low-grade oxygen was the first to show that the market was out of stock, and the price went up. Silicon without oxygen is also rising under the support of the continuous price rise of downstream aluminum products. After the production of the si plants in Sichuan and Yunnan successively reduces, the spot market is tight. The plants are more likely to raise the prices. The operation rate of the domestic polysilicon keeps high and the consumption capacity is stable. Meanwhile the aluminum market is improving. As a result, the Si market is in short supply.

The Export market

In November, the export volume was 57773 tons, an increase of 3457tons on a month on month basis. Compared with October 2019, it decreased by 6964 tons or 13.71%. From January to October, the total export volume was 489544 tons, with a year-on-year decrease of 97766 tons or 16.64%.

The Operating rate and the production quantity

In November, 280 sets of silicon metal furnaces in China were put into operation, which reduced by 33 sets on a month on month basis and 48 sets were increased on a year-on-year basis. The operating rate was 46.05%, down 16.21% month on month. The total output is 235740 tons. The output decreased by 5060 tons on a month on month basis. It increased by 32.94% by 58420 tons on a year-on-year basis. The total output from January to November is 1999460 tons, which is 47850 tons lower than that in January to August in 2019, a decrease of 2.16%。
